Softball: 3 biggest classes have new No. 1’s heading into playoffs

There are new teams atop three classifications in the coaches softball poll heading into the region playoffs next week.

Harrison, 22-2, jumps from second to first in Class AAAAA after winning 11 of its final 12 games in the regular season. ¬†Brookwood, last week’s No. 1, dropped to No. 2 after losing two of its final four games and four of its last seven. North Gwinnett, unranked last week, junped into the poll at No. 8 to give Gwinnett County five teams among the top 10.

In Class AAAA, Greenbrier leap-frogged over Union Grove and Whitewater to take the No. 1 spot. Greenbrier, ranked No. 3 a week ago, won the final 12 games of the regular season. Union Grove dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 after losing two of its final three regular season games and Whitewater fell from second to fourth. Northgate moved up from fourth to third.

Oconee County takes over the No. 1 spot in Class AAA, moving up from No. 2. Oconee ends the regular season on a 23-game winning streak and posted 19 shutouts in that span. Walnut Grove drops from first to second and West Laurens remains No. 3.

Berrien and Greater Atlanta Christian remain No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in Class AA. Buford jumps from No. 5 to No. 3.
