Football: Class A 2nd round playoff previews
Emanuel County Institute (10-1) at Clinch County (8-3): This will be the fifth postseason meeting between the two teams, and the fourth since 2004. ECI leads the series 3-2-1, but the playoff matchups are tied 2-2. ECI has won the last two meetings, in the semifinals in 2007 and 33-21 last year in the second round.
Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (9-2) at Lincoln County (10-1): The Red Devils don’t lose often at home, especially in the playoffs. The last time that happened was 2003 to Hawkinsville in the Class A state championship game.
Miller County (9-2) at Savannah Christian (11-0): The Pirates won the only previous meeting between the two schools, 20-13 last season in the second round. This time the Raiders are the higher seeded team and at home.
Bremen (7-4) at Holy Innocents’ (10-1): The Bears, on an eight-game winning streak, have allowed only 21 points in the past four games. The Blue Devils are making their 12th straight postseason appearance.
Commerce (7-4) at Darlington (7-4): The teams are no strangers to the playoffs, as Commerce have qualified for postseason all but three seasons since 1980 and Darlington has missed out only four times since 1990. Still, the only meeting between the two teams was a 37-6 win by Commerce in 1981.
Wilcox County (9-2) at Greenville (11-0): The Patriots have rallied around coach Jeremy Williams, who has Lou Gehrig’s disease. The defense has posted three straight shutouts and six on the season. Wilcox is trying to get to the final eight for the third year in a row.
Bowdon (10-1) at Wesleyan (11-0): The defending state champion Wolves had allowed 25 points through the first 10 games before beating Whitefield Academy 45-13 last week. Bowdon is averaging around 35 points a game and has won seven in a row.
Chattahoochee County (9-1) at Twiggs County (10-1): The Cobras have not been tested since a loss to Wilkinson County in the first game of the season. This is the Cobras seventh playoff appearance in nine seasons under coach Dexter Copeland. The Panthers are averaging 45 points during their current five-game winning streak.
