Class AAAAA Playoff Picture Begins to Clear
Region 1-AAAAA
The last Friday of the season will be important in Region 1. Colquitt, Lowndes and Northside are all still in the hunt for the region title. Colquitt and Northside will square off to settle their end on the field. A Northside win gives them the region title. If Colquitt wins, they have to get some help from Warner Robins. Lowndes can win the title by defeating Warner Robins and getting an assist from Colquitt. Valdosta still has a shot at the playoffs. They must defeat Houston County and pull for their rivals at Lowndes to beat Warner Robins.
Region 2-AAAAA
Stephenson has wrapped up the region title; even with a loss in the final game, they have defeated both Union Grove and M.L. King. Union Grove and M.L. King meet in the final game to decide second and third place. Newton and Luella play with the winner taking the final spot in the playoffs.
Region 3-AAAAA
Camden County has wrapped up first place in Region 3. A loss in their final game would put them in a tie with Windsor Forest whom they beat earlier this season. Windsor Forest has second place in the region locked up by virtue of their win over Bradwell Institute. Bradwell can claim third with a win over Camden County. Jenkins can claim third by combining a win over Groves with a loss by Bradwell Institute. Beach still has a shot at the playoffs; they must win their game against Windsor Forest and hope for a Groves win over Jenkins.
Region 4-AAAAA
Newnan has secured the top spot in Region 4. Westlake has the second spot nailed down and East Coweta will finish third. Each of these teams would win a tie breaker even with a loss in their final game. Chapel Hill controls their own fate; they must win over Westlake to take the last spot in the playoffs. A Chapel Hill loss brings Creekside and Pebblebrook back into the mix if both can win their final game.
Region 5-AAAAA
After dominating Region 5 throughout the 90’s, McEachern is back on top after a long drought. Woodstock will be the number two team in the region and Etowah is number three. Harrison can grab the fourth spot with a win over Etowah. Cherokee must win and pull for a loss by Harrison. East Paulding must win and see Harrison and Cherokee fall. If all three teams lose, Marietta is back in the mix with a win and it would just take too long to explain. This last scenario is all too possible, so it should be fun to watch.
Region 6-AAAAA
Lassiter and Roswell will meet to decide the first and second spots for Region 6. Walton can secure the third spot with a win over Pope. Kell is in the playoffs with a win in their final game; their seed would depend on Walton. If Walton and Kell both lose, then Pope, Milton and Centennial are all back in the mix.
Region 7-AAAAA
The North Gwinnett, Peachtree Ridge showdown will decide the title in Region 7. Collins Hill is locked into the third spot. North Forsyth is in at number four with a win over Northview. Norcross must beat Collins Hill and hope for a loss by North Forsyth to take fourth place. If both teams lose, Mill Creek is in the mix if they defeat South Forsyth.
Region 8-AAAAA
Grayson has known for two weeks that they are the Region 8 winner. South Gwinnett is now locked into second place and Dacula has taken third. The Brookwood-Parkview matchup has had playoff implications for many years, but this is the first time these two have played to see who gets in and who goes home.
