Class AAAA Football Playoffs – Regions 5-8
Region 5-AAAA
In Region 5, Sandy Creek and Banneker face off in a region playoff game for the number one and two slots. The other Region playoff games have Mays taking on Northgate, while Starr’s Mill against Villa Rica. The two winners will fill the number three and four spots with different scenarios based on which teams win.
Region 6-AAAA
The battle in Region 6 is for the last available playoff spot. Southwest DeKalb has already secured the region title and Marist is the runner up. Defending state champ Tucker is the third seed. Stone Mountain can secure the fourth spot by beating Southwest DeKalb this week. If Stone Mountain loses, they could fall into a three way tie with Chamblee and Lithonia, if both those teams win. This scenario would invoke a “Power Points” system used by the region, with Chamblee coming out on top.
Region 7-AAAA
In Region 7, Hiram and Dalton are the sub-region winners and will face one another for the title; the loser of this game will be the number two team in the region. For the third and fourth spots, Sprayberry travels to Sequoyah and Paulding County goes to Northwest Whitfield. Region tie breakers will be used to determine the seeds.
Region 8-AAAA
Apalachee wrapped up the Region 8 title with last week’s win over Madison County. Clarke Central can secure second place with a win over Madison County or a Rockdale County loss. Rockdale County has a shot at second if they can beat winless Monroe Area and combine that with a Clarke Central loss. If Salem can take down Apalachee, they could find themselves in a three way tie in the event of a Clarke Central loss and a Rockdale County win. In this scenario, it would be up to the region to seed the three teams. If Salem wins and Rockdale County loses, Salem takes third and Rockdale County is fourth. If Salem and Rockdale both lose, there could be a three way tie and a mini game, or a four way tie that breaks down to Loganville finishing third and Rockdale County finishing fourth.
